Adventure outside Castle Rock Lake to the many parks, attractions and historical sites. 

Buckhorn State Park

Buckhorn State Park, established in 1971, is a paradise for water recreationists, hunters, hikers, campers, and nature lovers.

The park has a three-site outdoor group camp; 42 cart-in campsites, one of which is accessible for people with disabilities; 12 drive-in sites; and an accessible cabin. 

Castle Rock County Park

This 160-acre park is located on the shores of Castle Rock Lake and provides swimming and picnicking facilities, including shelters and grills, bathhouse, showers and restrooms, boat access and cross-country skiing and hiking trails. There are three hundred campsites and during the summer months the park has very high visitation.

Petenwell Bluff

One of Wisconsin’s finest sport climbing areas is located just a 20 minute drive from Castle Rock Lake. The walls are compromised of solid, colorful sandstone and offer interesting climbing on clean & steep rock. 

Panther Spirit Mounds

These thousand year old effigy mounds are ancient burial sites for the Ho-Chunk Nation, located in the city of Mauston. 

Necedah National Fish & Wildlife Refuge

One of the largest savanna restorations in Wisconsin, this wildlife refuge is a place where wildlife thrives and visitors can reconnect with nature.  Visitors can see plants and animals that have nearly vanished from the state, including the Whooping Crane and the red-headed woodpecker. It is also a home for fishing, hunting, hiking, bird watching and wildlife viewing. 

Designer Brand Outlet Mall

When you aren’t in nature, the Mauston area is home to many designer brand outlet malls for you to go shopping for less. 

Wisconsin Dells

Wisconsin’s Waterpark capital of the world, Wisconsin Dells is home to multiple waterparks, live shows, attractions and nature areas. It is only a thirty minute drive from Castle Rock Lake.
